Pavilion highlight
Visitors to the Chinese Pavilion will be greeted by our 56 ethnic groups represented by sweeping images of China which will create a sense of being right next to picturesque landscapes and historical sites such as the Great Wall of China, Potala Palace, and the Terra Cotta Warriors China. Not only can our guests pose in front of the pictures, they can take part as they “try on” traditional costumes (without even changing). The interactive culture corner run by our enthusiastic high school students will give our visitors a taste of festivals and rituals embedded in the Chinese culture. The highlight of our performances are: Martial arts, the magic show and the Chinese Fashion Show- all enthusiastically received during the 2009 Folkfest. The Chinese Pavilion will also present a variety of ethnic dances, costumes, poetry, and music. Some of the nationalities featured included Han, Xinjiang, Yi, Dai, and an ancient dance featuring costumes worn over 2000 years ago. During the performances, our visitors may be invited to learn the basic movements of Chinese dances on the stage or the floor. Entertainment Chinese Martial Arts: Chinese martial arts, also referred to in Mandarin Chinese as Wu Shu and popularly as Kung Fu, are a number of fighting styles that have developed over centuries in China. This year, we invite Saskatoon’s Chinese Martial Arts Academy to bring you a visual and audio experience of Chinese Martial Arts. Magic of China: At the age of seven, Mr. Lin Hou, a U of S graduate student, started learning magic. “Mo Shu”, as it is known in China can be traced back 2,000 years. Since Chinese magic was added two years ago to the Chinese Pavilion, it has been one of the most popular attractions. So don’t miss Mr. Lin Hou’s Magic of China. Qi Pao Fashion Show: Qi Pao, also known in English as the Chinese Gown, is perhaps one of the most recognizable symbols of China and Chinese culture. The fashion show at the Chinese Pavilion will feature various types of Qi Pao dresses that are handmade and imported from China. From the headgear and jewelry to the silk fans, all the materials have been imported from China to give you the most authentic experience. Chinese Folk Dances: China is an ancient civilization with a history of over 5,000 years. There are 56 nationalities in China, each with their own rich heritage and culture. The Chinese Pavilion is proud to present a variety of China’s nationalities in dance, costume, poetry, and music. Some of the nationalities featured include Han, Xinjiang, Yi, and Dai. Also, an ancient dance performed over 2000 years ago that will show off the dresses worn by girls at that time. We will invite some of our visitors to learn the movements from our dancers and show their Chinese dancing skills. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
