1980: The Formation of (Saskatoon) Folkfest
SEPTEMBER 4th, 5th & 6th, 1980 -- The Century Saskatoon Society, established by City Council to plan the 100th birthday celebrations of our city in 1982, was designed by City Council as the Celebrate Saskatchewan Committee to handle the 75th Anniversary Celebrations of our province, in Saskatoon. The Century Saskatoon Board of Directors met with a number of ethno-cultural groups and the Saskatoon Folk Art Council to discuss the possibility of undertaking a "festival of pavilions" within our city. One of the Council's objectives was to promote mutual understanding through the cultural activities of all ethnic groups. The ideas was met with such enthusiasm that it was not long before the "Focus On People Committee" was established, to coordinate the event as our major project of Celebrate Saskatchewan.
